The Significance of 2012

Image : http://www.flickr.com

We're going to take a few minutes to look at the Mayan prophecy of December 21, 2012, as the end . . . of an age? Of the world? Of a calendar? We're going to find out.

There are two ways to approach this. One is to use the Mayan Long Count Calendar. But the other, which is very interesting, is to use the Aztec Sun Disk, which has the five ages on it. That's the one we're going to take a look at.

I took a picture of this Aztec Sun Disk (see http://youtube.com/watch?v=cH6ig9Xgq3s) at the archeological museum in Mexico City, and I have it here. The disk is of course much larger than it appears in the picture. It weighs about 25 tons and is about 12 feet in diameter, so a normal man would only come up to about half the distance of this circle; it's about 3 feet deep. We're actually going to look at this center circle, but first, I want you to notice at the top these two massive serpents coming down out of the heavens into the Earth. Symbolizing the god of fire and the god of the Sun, respectively, they come down as serpents, but their heads are now depicted as human heads. This connects with the ancient idea of the descent of the serpent from the tree of knowledge down into the Earth. Or the ancient Hindu idea that the kundalini, or the life force of humanity, descended out of energy into matter.

It is also the symbol of the descent of this power and our descent as souls, or children of God, coming out of pure spirit, of pure energy, into matter for the first time. When we look at the inner circle, we see those early ages.

Here is a closeup of the center circle. As you can see, it has a circle in the middle with the sun god's face, above it is a pyramid, and then there are four squares around the side. Each one of these squares represents one of the ancient ages. The circle in the middle is the age we are currently living in, called the Age of Movement, or Change. It actually began August 11, 3114 B.C., and it ends December 21, 2012. So the big question is, what happens after it ends? - there are only five ages shown here.

Well, actually, there are seven ages depicted, and the next two ages are very important to us. Remember the descent of the serpent energy, the kundalini life force, out of the heavens? Out of energy into matter? Out of formlessness into form? Out of spirit into flesh? This is a reverse of that process. Let's take a look at these ages.

Some people begin their interpretation of the ancient ages with the first square to the left of the pyramid, and they go around the circle counterclockwise. Others begin with the image in the square on the right of the pyramid, then go to the one on the left, and then come around. I prefer to begin with the one on the right of the pyramid and go in reverse order. You'll see that these ages fit very well with the mythology of not only the Mayans but the Egyptians and other ancient cultures.

The first square here has a stylized jaguar in it, and it's called the Jaguar Sun, or the Age of the Jaguar. It was an ancient age in which we, as souls, were quite powerful, quite sophisticated, but we were not really incarnate beings in the sense of physical form. We were more like spirits, or godlings, as the Egyptians called us. We were more like energy and spirit.

As we move down to the next square, we come into the Age of Water. The Jaguar was the Age of Earth, and now we're moving into the Age of Water - the Age of the Fish. The idea here is that, as the children of God descended from the heavens, they got lost and could not see the horizon from which they had come or to which they were headed. The Aztecs say that the great god Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent, or the winged serpent, descended and created a firmament so that the children could find their way. This is very similar to the story in the book of Genesis in the Bible.

Then we come to the next square, the Age of Fire. And in this age, there was an attempt to make a physical body that was ideal for the children of God, the sons and daughters of the Creator, to use while in the Earth world. The Mayans called this the blue maize body; maize, their term for corn. The blue maize people were perfect in every way, making it possible for the godlings to incarnate, to take on physical form. However, the children brought with them many little jealousies and weaknesses and vices that they stumbled over, and eventually, they lost their way, even then. When that age ended, the Mayans and Aztecs called it the Age of Fiery Rain, because it ended with volcanic explosions and meteors from heaven, one of which created the Carolina Bays, in the southeast of North America and the Caribbean Islands, and also created the Puerto Rican Trench. Some believe that this disturbance resulted in the destruction of Atlantis.

The beginning of the fourth age, the Age of Wind, is symbolized in the fourth square, in which we can see a stylized turkey. The story is that the great eagles of God, or the children of God, were now like little turkeys. They couldn't fly very high or very far off the Earth. They were very much possessed by this world and were caught up in the evolution of matter. Here also, interestingly, the prophecy says that they began to use Simian bodies, monkey bodies, in which to incarnate. This fits somewhat with the theory of evolution. In fact, current humans share 98 percent of their genome structure with the chimpanzee (or orangutan). That 2 percent difference is a very crucial one, of course.

That's when the children of God, the godlings, actually began to incarnate in the Earth consistently. They were, in fact, as Buddha would say, trapped in the cycle of incarnations.

In the inner circle begins the fifth age, the Age of Change---changing the situation, moving from a possessive condition to a liberating condition. This is the age we have been in since 3114 B.C. And this age ends in 2012.

The age to follow, according to the myths and the legends, is the Age of the Spirit of All Living Things. It is a time when our souls regain awareness of the essence of life rather than the form, regain a sense of energy and spirit rather than only physicality and matter. Once we gain that, we regain the real power of life, and we start to awaken to the spirit of all living things.

Next is the seventh age, the age that the Mayans called the Age of Melting Into Oneness Again. So there's a return to the great collective consciousness, the great oneness out of which all souls were created and given free will and life to go out and grow and become companions to their creator.

According to the legends, the ancient ages were very long - millions of years long. And, gradually, they got shorter and shorter. The ages that are to follow December 21, 2012, are to be even shorter. We have been in the present period, the Age of Movement, for about 5,000 years.

Nostradamus, a great prophet in his own right, wrote a letter to his son Cesar, saying that he could see to the year 3797 that life continued. So life is continuing into the next age, but it's not millions of years or tens of thousands of years. It's a shorter period of time.

The first age coming after the Age of Movement ends is the Age of the Spirit of All Living Things, an Age of Enlightenment. In the book of Revelation in the Bible, it says that for a thousand years, Satan will be bound - all evil on the Earth will go, and it will be a golden age of enlightenment. This corresponds very well with the Age of the Spirit of All Living Things.

Next follows an age, for an even shorter period of time, in which there is again full consciousness of the oneness with the life force, with the Creator, as was the condition of humankind in the first chapters of Genesis. This is a very different look at the Mayan Prophecy. It's an uplifting, hopeful, promising look versus the dark "end of the world" look or the idea that evil will conquer good, that darkness will overcome light. As most of the ancient prophecies of the ancient peoples themselves declared, Good will overcome evil, and light will overcome darkness, forever.

Train To Teach Others

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The book contains one hundred and three pages and presents invaluable information about Christian education based on six pedagogical principles, each occupying a chapter. These principles are basic to understanding the art of teaching. This training manual is primarily designed to improve teaching skills of Sunday school teachers in local churches in Africa. The first principle 'know yourself and your call' admonishes Bible teachers at all levels to examine themselves to ascertain whether they are born again and secondly if they are called to teach in the church. Those who are not born again are encouraged to respond to the call of salvation.

In the call to service and training, it is expected that Bible teachers must be living epistles at they teach since their lives can have negative or positive impact on the learners. The second principle stresses that the teacher should know the Bible since it is the most important text. Other books are dismissed as teaching aids. The Bible is regarded as unique because it is God's Word with an evident harmony and unity in its trustworthy and infallible message. The length of discussion of the third principle (know your methods) manifest its importance in teaching. The author provides supportive evidence to justify the provision of a curriculum. Although the sample of the church educational curriculum is far from comprehensive, it could serve as a useful guide in respectively transforming a local church and member to a Bible school and church worker. Prior to the selection of a teaching method, it is imperative, the writer argues, to look at the nature of the aims, materials, maturity of the students and the time of teaching. The writer's suggestion that lectures, discussions and projects are good materials for teaching adults, story telling, songs and use of object lessons for teaching youths is in consonance with the viewpoint of many educators. Teaching tools and methods are to be regarded as a means to an end and teachers are encouraged to adopt Jesus' methods, a systematic of which would result in effective teaching, learning, knowing and doing. Rational and emotional approaches are seen in Jesus' use of figurative language such as metaphor, hyperbole, repetition, fortiori argument, paradox, contrasts and poems.

Other effective methods discussed are the convergent questioning method, the divergent or thought-provoking and rhetorical or evaluative questioning methods, and the inductive Bible study method. Fact, observation, interpretation, application questions and guidelines to teach primary children are also discussed.

The fourth principle, know your students, could be seen as an adaptation of the law of education since the teacher should not only know the contents but also those he teaches. The discussion of the need and nature of man is put in perspective when the writer observes that the teacher should know that students are sinners and how to employ their five faculties in learning. He must know the general characteristics of all age groups. The fifth principle adequately focuses on the aim or what the teacher wants to achieve in his teaching. Although there are different kinds, the writer concentrates on content, inspiration and response aims eventually showing the relationship among them. The ultimate principle of knowing how to look back wraps the discussion. Classroom visitation, student's opinions, self appraisal, examination or test and life observation are five ways identified to evaluate effective teaching.

The inconsistent style of citation with the text affects the quality of the work. The word 'pages' is spelled out in some areas but abbreviated in others. Inconsistency is also reflected in the bibliography. Furthermore, after listing ages and educational levels, a particular age group is unjustifiably left out in the discussion. Another inconsistency is that not all the chapters have questions and answers at the end. A controversial issue could be the division of the human being into different groups with their corresponding ages. Several important issues like classroom management and discipline are not discussed. These are among relevant issues treated in standard texts on teaching.

In spite of the above, the attempt of the writer is commendable. It is realistically observed that in teaching, one must look for signs in the learner. Two important ways to pass on information include the pouring in method and that which involves students' participation. According to the writer, the former, unlike the latter, should not be regarded as a teaching method.

Collioure Will Always Be Collioure

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In France there is no sky as blue as the one in Collioure...I just have to close the shutters of my room and I have all the colors of the Mediterranean before me. - Henri Mattise, French painter.

Matisse probably wrote this a century ago, when in 1905, he came with fellow artist Andre Derain to Collioure. Today, Collioure is attractive and inspiring as ever.

It wasn't part of our plan to visit Collioure in the south of France (near the Spanish border) but we had the good fortune to meet a Belgian couple named Gordon and Hilary during our trip to Carcassonne. They encouraged us to visit Collioure by bus on our own. Most guidebooks would not give tourists the tip of taking the regional or local bus which is a cheaper option for independent travelers like us. Gordon and Hilary were full of praises for the beauty of Collioure and if they were able to go there by local bus, so could we. And if we could do it, so could you. (See below How to get there from Canet)

It was high noon when we finally arrived in Collioure. As soon as we got off the bus, the sea breeze filled our senses, and looking towards the direction of the chateau, we glimpsed the Mediterranean sea in the distance. From the Centre Air Mer Soleil bus stop, we crossed a small bridge and strolled over cobblestone pavement, taking in the scene before us. It was beyond our expectations! To our right stood an ancient castle by the Mediterranean sea, and there were sailboats anchored to its rampart. Straight ahead of us is a small beach, and in the distance we could see the outline of sloping hills dotted with houses.

To our left is the Old Quarter (of Moure): narrow streets with cobblestone pavement, apartments in colors of pink, yellow, peach, or cream, terracotta roofs, green or brown window shutters. Outdoor cafes under blue, green, white or yellow awnings, red and yellow chairs lined the length of the beach. An ancient church with a bell tower frames the village by the sea. No wonder Matisse fell in love with Collioure! He later wrote: Working before a soul-stirring landscape, all I thought of was making my colors sing without any heed to rules and regulations...

There is a strong Spanish flavor to this French town, and we saw many stores in the village closed for siesta (rest after lunch). Aida and Rachel found a store that sells hand-sewn espadrilles, casual sandals with a sole made of rope. Colorful pottery, designer Spanish fans, postcard recipes of Catalan cuisine, and tapas on menus of cafes can be seen everywhere. In the summer, there are even local bullfights and Sardane dances.

In his book, Toujours Provence, author Peter Mayle encountered anchovies from Collioure in an open market called Les Halles, in Provence. A sought-after treasure of Collioure, anchovies are used in many Catalan dishes such as tapenade, a spread consisting of black olives, capers and anchovies in olive oil. According to the fish lady in Les Halles market, one could live to be a hundred years old on a diet including tapenade everyday! It's really sad that we missed this information about Collioure. Nevertheless, the succulent taste of baked Moules (mussels) with alioli, garlic-flavored home-made mayonnaise with herbs de provence made up for what we missed. Ah, c'est la vie!

A visit to the Chateau Royal is a must if only for the fantastic views over the Mediterranean sea. What could be more peaceful than gazing at God's glorious blue sky, blue sea and rugged coastline? Or feeling the gentle wind against our bodies and hearing the sound of the waves in the distance? It calmed our soul, soothed our senses and lifted our spirits to see life in a different perspective. Our problems suddenly seemed trifle viewed from up there.

As in Carcassonne, the Royal Castle of Collioure was built on Roman foundations. It is said that in the 13th century the Knights Templar (crusaders to the Holy Land) built the chateau walls. There were many legends as to the treasure of the Knights Templar. People speculated where the knights buried the treasures taken from the churches in the Holy Land. Perhaps they were buried in the Royal Castle? In 1642, King Louis XIII came with 10,000 men, including Turenne, d'Artagnan and musketeers to occupy the hills of Collioure. Did you know that Alexandre Dumas' novel, The Three Musketeers, was based on the memoirs of d'Artagnan? Collioure could have been in d'Artagnan's memoirs; I don't know why but i found the castle by the sea romantic and enchanting.

Collioure has been immortalized in many paintings and in the chemin de Fauvisme, one could trail the 20 reproductions by Matisse and Derain on the exact spot where they were painted. It would have been an experience to see this had we known of it. As it was, we were contented in browsing through the many art galleries and shops in the Old Quarter, with truffle chocolates melting in our mouths. I agree with the motto of this town - Collioure will always be Collioure. Maurice Chevalier's song, Paris will always be Paris, is also true for Collioure. It is truly beautiful, historical, and peaceful. Perhaps someday I might just be back for those anchovies and Mattisse's reproductions.

How to Get there from Canet: My advice would be to secure the bus schedules of Compagnie transports (Canet-Perpignan) and the regional bus, CG66 (Cerbere-Perpignan) beforehand so you can plan ahead and not miss any connection. Line 1 Companie transports bus travels from Canet to Perpignan Gare SNCF and vice versa (2 euros for a return ticket or 1.10 euros for a single journey). Take the Line 1 bus to Perpignan and get down Vauban stop. Walk towards the direction of the Gare Routiere (bus station) along General Leclerc street. Take the regional bus, CG66 to Collioure (Bus #37), 6.60 euros single journey or 13.20 for a return ticket. Get down at Centre Air Mer Soleil bus stop in Collioure. Don't forget that the last trip back to Perpignan via CG66 bus is at 6:30 pm. After that, you must RUN to catch the last bus trip to Canet at 7:47 pm at the Palais des Congres (and not Vauban!) stop... Isn't it exciting?

Book Review - The Essential Edgar Cayce

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Here is a remarkable overview of the most important concepts in the Edgar Cayce material, by Mark Thurston, who has devoted much of his life to studying the readings, writing books, lecturing, and teaching. Noted author and philosopher Jacob Needleman calls it "Unquestionably the best general introduction to the teachings of this phenomenal American seer, healer, and spiritual philosopher." Thurston has elegantly distilled the substance of over 14,000 readings into small topic-specific sections.

A comprehensive introduction outlines the history of Cayce's life and work, and neatly categorizes and defines his philosophy in 12 essential themes. Ideas which have been difficult for some to accept literally, such as the existence of Atlantis, have been reframed to make sense to skeptics and newcomers to the world of the Cayce readings. In each of eight main chapters, with titles such as The Nature of Reality, The Psychology of the Soul and Spirit (including meditation and dreams), Holistic Healing, The Soul's Journey, and Social Vision, the author presents the subject matter and clarifies the sometimes-complicated premises. Verbatim Cayce readings pertinent to the subject provide the reader with context and a broader understanding. Four appendixes provide the readings' unique story of astrology from the viewpoint of the soul's path; help on reading the readings; a soul perspective on sexuality; and resources for further study.

This book will be an invaluable, much-turned-to resource for anyone who has an interest in the Edgar Cayce concepts or would just like a better understanding of the mysteries of the universe and our soul's journey through time. Those with a passion for the Edgar Cayce concepts will come away with a deeper and richer comprehension of this work.

How the City of Dubai Got to Where it is Now

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Nowadays, the city of Dubai is known for its extremely wealthy visitors and its eclectic mix of old Arabian culture with new Western ideas and buildings. It was not until recently that the city of Dubai became known for these two things. In the early to mid 1990s, the government of Dubai hired a lead geotechnical consultant, who then gathered a group of other geotechnical consultants to begin work on restructuring the city itself an old Arab city to a new, partly westernized city. This city is continuing to grow at a rapid rate and it shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

The city of Dubai is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the country of the United Arab Emirates. The government is a constitutional monarchy, which is the same as many countries in Europe. The area was known for ease of trade, especially, in recent years, of oil. However, this all has changed since the mid 1990s.

Although still focused on oil trade, the city of Dubai began to also focus on tourism and more trade with wealthy nations. In the mid 1990s the government of Dubai decided to start making some major changes to the city. The Burj Dubai skyscraper, which is currently still under construction, is now the tallest building in the world. The city also boasts a winter-themed indoor ski-resort where natives can go to play in the snow by building snowmen and skiing or snowboarding down large hills. The city also revamped its local transportation to include newer buses and subways and to have more cab service. The city has also modeled a beach resort after the famous Atlantis resort in the United States. In Dubai, the resort is called Atlantis The Palm because it is located that the top of land that looks like a palm tree. The resort is one of the most luxurious in the world. The city is also now home to a famous tennis tournament and has many visitors every year from the tennis community and other extremely wealthy individuals. In fact, a mini tennis match was played on a helipad at the top of a luxury, sail-shaped hotel located 692 feet in the air.

While Dubai officials have focused on updating the city and attempting to make some changes towards westernization, the old culture of Dubai has not been lost. Camel herders can still be seen herding camels while luxury cars speed by on the highway. And, the social culture of the area is still the same, even though the buildings and infrastructure may have changed.

It is really interesting to see a city that wants to mix their unique social culture with some of the elements of western culture. The city of Dubai is one of the first to attempt such a radical change to the city, while still attempting to maintain its original social culture. It will be fun to see how the city grows over the next few decades because this city does not plan on stopping its renovations any time soon.

Connor R. Sullivan recently met with a skilled geotechnical consultant for an engineering project he is working on. A group of geotechnical consultants were hired to work on building the tallest building in the world.

The Bahamas - It's More Than Just Beaches

Image : http://www.flickr.com

While the beaches of the Bahamas are the premier tourist attraction, there are many more things to do if you travel inland. On Abaco you can visit the Abaco National Park, which is a 20,500-acre national park dedicated to preservation of the native plants and animals of the Bahamas. It is one of the only places in the Bahamas where you can see the endangered Bahama Parrots. These beautiful emerald colored birds call the park home. Also on Abaco you can see the wild horses of Abaco. These horses are probably descendants of the horses Columbus brought on his trips to the New World. They are housed in a preservation area in the pine forests of Abaco. Also on Abaco you can explore the Hope Town Lighthouse. This candy-striped lighthouse was built in the early 1860s. It is still lit by a kerosene lamp.

Andros Island also has a lighthouse on the southern end of the island. The Andros Lighthouse was built in the 1890s. Andros is home to many ruins of the sugar cane plantations of the Bahamas past. You can visit the Old Government Administrate Building and Jail House, Old School Buildings, the Whyms Plantation, the Chamberlain Sisal Plantation, several old wells, the Twin Lakes Farm and more. History lovers will want to spend several days visiting these sites from the 1800s and early 1900s. The Star Gate Blue Hole dive is famous because in the 1990s several Indian skulls were found here. Andros also has several historic churches for visitors to explore.

The next island in a tour of the Bahamas is Bimini. Bimini has its own museum, dedicated to the history and culture of the people of the island. There is a site that has been nicknamed the "Lost City of Atlantis". This site is several blocks of limestone just off the coast of the island. Divers can trace the road and have found some interesting relics just 20 feet below the surface.

Grand Bahama Island offers visitors a plethora of non-beach related activities. At Fragrance of the Bahamas you can make and bottle your own perfume. This interesting exhibit is housed in a historical English-style mansion that you can tour. The International Bazaar is a 10-acre series of shops and restaurants that feature products from around the world. This is a great place to pick up some trinkets to commemorate your trip.

Long Island is home to the Columbus Monument, which attributes to the discovery of the archipelago by Christopher Columbus. Hamilton's Cave is an interesting location to explore. Here you can see the cave where Lucayan artifacts were found. St. Mary's Church is an interesting location. It does not have stunning architecture like some of the other churches on the islands, but it is thought to be the oldest church on the island. The church was built in the 1600s by the Spanish.

Paradise Island is home to the Ardastra Gardens and Conservation Center. This miniature zoo houses 300 animals from around the world in beautiful tropical garden displays. For those who enjoy military history, there are several historic forts to visit on Paradise Island, including Fort Charlotte, Fort Fincastle and Fort Montagu.

As you can see, there is much more to do on the islands of the Bahamas than just the beaches. Of course, if you are traveling to the Bahamas, you are going to want to spend some time ocean-side. Be sure to schedule some time, however, to explore the many inland activities of the Bahamas.

In Search of Atlantis -- Getting Closer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Around 355 BC Plato described an ancient, exotic island kingdom catastrophically buried beneath the sea when its once-virtuous people angered the gods with their indulgence in sin and corruption. The city of Atlantis was a marvel of architecture and engineering. The city was composed of a series of concentric walls and canals about 9000 years before the time of Plato. When the people of Atlantis became corrupt and greedy, the gods decided to destroy them. A violent earthquake shook the land, giant waves rolled over the shores, and the island sank into the sea, never to be seen again. In Plato's book, Timaeus, a character named Kritias describes that an account of Atlantis has been in his family for generations. According to the character, an Egyptian priest told the story to his ancestor, Solon.

The first thing to realize is that it would be surprising if the description of Atlantis by Plato is precise and accurate, not because Plato was not accurate, but because the story had been passed down through thousands of years, initially verbally and not through writing. This description reached Plato through Egyptian Priests. It would be difficult to pin down the exact date of the submergence of Atlantis for the same reason. However there is little doubt that any truth in the story would be prior to 3300 BC. There is no instance of writing of full descriptions prior to 3300 BC. Some evidence of writing brief description with pictorial symbols of consignments is all that exists in the form of writing from a period before 3300 BC. The names, sizes and time spans are possibly inventions or modifications as the story was handed down the centuries.

The essence of the story, that of an ancient well-planned and prosperous city that preceded known civilizations on earth may however be true. In fact archeologists and historians have postulated the existence of such a civilization. Planned cities and other technologies suddenly began to spring up in the Indus valley, Mesopotamia and Egypt in the period 3500-3000 BC as if they had dropped from the sky. Since design and construction of these cities involved engineering skills that take time to develop it has been suspected that they came from an already developed civilization that has not yet been discovered. Various suggestions have been made as to where Atlantis might be located ranging from the Antarctica to South America and even other planets.

A relevant line of enquiry is to find where the Egyptian priests got the story of Atlantis. The most probable direction is Sumer or Ancient Mesopotamia. There is also the possibility that the first dynastic priests of Egypt were in fact Sumerian-Akkadians. The first dynastic Pharaoh of Egypt - Menes united upper and lower Egypt, and constructed a new capital at Memphis by diverting a part of the Nile. The engineering skills required for all this appears to be from Mesopotamia as well. It takes considerable time and apprenticeship to develop the required engineering skills even if one is very brilliant. There is no evidence of these skills existing in Egypt prior to Menes (or Manas, the Egyptians did not write vowels and these have to be guessed). Menes as well as his priests and engineers were probably all Mesopotamians although of the work force was local. In any case, even if it is contested that Menes and his engineers were not from Mesopotamia, it cannot be contested that ancient Egypt had several links with ancient Mesopotamia that went beyond just trade.

Further, the likelihood of the Atlantis stories being of Sumer origin is strengthened by the fact that the submergence of ancient cities was a strong part of the Sumerian mythology. It dominates their historical tradition. The destruction of the ancient city as a result of sin was also a part of their beliefs. Therefore, there is a strong probability that the ancient city of Atlantis is an ancient submerged city of the Sumerians.

If one traces the origin of the story of Atlantis to Sumerians one may enquire as to who the Sumerians were and where they came from? They were not local people because they spoke a language foreign to the parts. For a long time it was thought that their language was an isolated one, unrelated to other languages. However, the picture has now changed as a result of further studies. The study of their language along with anthropological examination of Sumerian skeletons helps to trace out their origins.

It has been found that the Sumerian language is an Austric language spoken by a group of ancient Australoid people found in India, South East Asia and Australia (The Austric Origin of the Sumerian Language, Language Form, vol. 22, no.1-2, Jan.-Dec. 1996.). An examination of ancient Sumerian skulls has further confirmed that the ancient Sumerians indeed belonged to the Australoid race. An evolved branch of the same tribe appears to have established the Indus civilization as well as the Sumerian one after the submergence of their coastal cities. In North-western India they would have encountered Neolithic people of Indo-European origin with which manpower they established the Indus cities. An analysis of skeletal remains from Indus valley confirms this mixture. The Sumerian language persisted side by side with local languages as with the official language of the rulers being Sumerian. In the Indus valley, Sumerian would have persisted along with local Aryan languages. So far scholars have been trying to decipher the Indus script based on a comparison with Dravidian and Aryan languages, and failed. A more fruitful attempt may be made if they used Austric for this purpose. Just as in Mesopotamia, ancient Sumerian was eventually replaced by the language of the majority (Akkadians) in the Indus valley it would have been replaced eventually by an Indo-Aryan language.

If we assume for the moment that the Sumerians originated on the west coast of India and that their ancient capital city was submerged then we have to enquire if any such evidence has been found. The recent discovery made in the Gulf of Cambay, made some sit up and watch with interest. It clearly established the existence of an ancient civilization that was submerged in the sea. The methodologies adopted to study this find, were novel and different, wherein advanced marine technologies and the most modern scientific applications of various disciplines were put to use. Most of the structures that were discovered in the Gulf of Cambay had many similarities to the Citadel, Great Bath, grid pattern habitation, granary, etc. of the Harappan civilization. But many of the artifacts and typology were different and distinctive and with the presence of many micro tools appeared to be much older than the Harappan. The northern metropolis has well made pottery pieces, wattle daub etc. from about 7506 BP onwards. It indicates well-organized city living. Hence it is possible that this metropolis came up after 8450 BP but much before 7506 BP. After the submergence of the southern metropolis, the ancients appear to have shifted and founded the northern metropolis. This wonderful twin prehistoric metropolis of Cambay lasted from about 13000 BP to about 3000 BP making it the most ancient and largest city civilization not only in Asia but also in the entire world. Scientists described, in a manner similar to Plato, the submergence of the city due to violent earthquakes and ensuing floods. The existence of a submerged circular harbor as described by Plato has also been found in a neighboring site. What is more the area has gold, elephants and coconuts just as in Plato’s Atlantis. The existence of other cities in the region may yet be discovered through further undersea explorations.

An important question to ask is if Atlantis indeed existed in the Indian Sub-continent then there should be some records of it in India itself since India has had a written literature from ancient times. In Mahabharata, an ancient and well know Hindu Scripture there is a specific account about the submerging of a city by the sea which reads thus:

"The sea, which had been beating against the shores, suddenly broke the boundary that was imposed on it by nature. The sea rushed into the city. It coursed through the streets of the beautiful city. The sea covered up everything in the city. Even as they were all looking, Arjuna saw the beautiful buildings becoming submerged one by one. Arjuna took a last look at the mansion of Krishna. The sea soon covered it. In a matter of a few moments it was all over. The sea had now become as placid as a lake. There was no trace of the beautiful city that had been the favorite haunt of all the Pandavas. Dwaraka was just a name; just a memory."

The significant thing to note here is that the city is described by Arjuna of Aryan origin as a city of Krishna who was dark like the dark Sumerians. Thus based on this study the author feels that ancient Atlantis is a city submerged of the west coast of India. Not all the evidence and arguments for this analysis could be presented here because of the brevity of this article. The actual capital city of Atlantis is probably not yet discovered and may require further exploration of the coastal region.

Florida: The Underwater Kingdom

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It's a place of shimmering water, of tropical breezes, of underwater fantasies. It's living rock, and animals that look like plants. It's a statute with its arms raised to they sky, yet still beneath the sea.

Welcome to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in the Florida Keys.

Kingdoms of the Sea

Pennekamp State Park is mostly under the waves, so the big draw is definitely on the watery side. Being the only living coral reef in the United States, Pennekamp is a mecca for divers from all over the world. And what a reef it is! It's a watery kingdom, with thrones of coral and guardian fish patrolling about.

Snorkel and Dive Tours

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park offers both snorkel and dive tours from its dive center. The main reef is about four miles offshore, so you are spirited away in a catamaran for your trip (the Spirit of Pennekamp).

Tours run around two hours of actual water time, and by all accounts they are very much worth it.

Glass Bottom Boats

If you aren't into getting wet but still want to see the reef, how about a glass-bottomed boat tour? You can relax in air-conditioned comfort and discover your own Atlantis.

What Else?

How about camping, fishing, swimming and canoeing? All this and more can be found at Pennekamp State Park. Come on and visit another world, just beneath the waves.

A Bahamas Family Vacation is the Required Prescription

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The kids are back in school; extra curricular activities are demanding constant shuttling of kids from point A to point B and then back again; the family dog needs attention from a pet groomer in more ways than one and the house needs cleaning and repairs. So why in the world would you be thinking about a Bahamas family vacation at this time in your life?

This is the best time to be thinking about a Bahamas family vacation. Make plans now so that when the weather turns cold your family turns south for a tropical paradise bonding experience all families should enjoy.

The Bahamas are located off the coast of Florida, about one hour of traveling distance. The islands are located near the Atlantic Gulf Stream making the water temperature an average of 80 degrees year around. Starting to get the mental picture?

The beaches are white and sandy with more water activities than you can dream of. Swim with the dolphins, snorkel along the reef, or scuba dive with the sea creatures. Brilliant colors combined with sun and sea fresh air will create memories that cannot be lost.

If splashing in the sea with your family is not the required prescription for enjoyment then head over to Paradise Island and the Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas. Luxury accommodations are waiting to pamper you and your family for the most grand Bahamas vacation ever.

There is no shortage of activities on Paradise Island. The Atlantis Resort has a 14 acre waterscape filled with water slides sure to excite kids of all ages. Dad and mom can head over to the quarter mile lazy river ride and soak up the sun. Don’t forget the sun tan lotion!

The Atlantis Resort has eleven different pools with smaller kiddies’ pools as well. Plenty of Marina Village shops are nearby for those souvenir purchases.

If you are looking to book your Bahamas family vacation, check with your local travel agent. There are also many online Bahamas travel package options available from the major travel web sites.

Some of the travel packages will be all inclusive meaning that you can pay up front when booking your trip for things like meals and snacks and then relax during your vacation not having to worry about paying for these items. Just make sure when booking your package you know exactly what is included. The savings in cost may also cost you flexibility in choosing where you dine.

Shop around for airfare to the Bahamas. Most of the major airlines fly into Nassau International Airport, located in the Bahamas.

The best time to travel to the Bahamas would be from November to May. This will avoid the hurricane season and provide the warmest escape from your cold, northern winter weather.

Take time out now and plan your family vacation. It will be time well spent and long remembered.

Star of David Necklace - An Ancient Symbol Of Power For Today

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When many people think of the Star of David symbol, they associate it with the Jewish people and the powerful nation of Israel.

But did you know that the Star of David is actually an ancient metaphysical symbol that predates the Jewish culture?

At least, many metaphysical researchers now believe this to be true.

The Star of David seems to date back to pre-Egyptian times and might even have its origins in the mythical civilization of Atlantis. Atlantis was said to be an early continent that existed before an "axial shift" or changing of the earth's magnetic poles destroyed this huge land mass. After Atlantis was destroyed, the few remaining survivors scattered to the four corners of the earth and were said to have founded early cultures like the Sumerian culture, the Egyptian and Babylonia cultures, and even ancient India and China.

Almost all native people have a memory, long passed down from generation to generation, of powerful earth changes that forever changed this planet in the ancient past. The story of Noah and his Ark is one such story, but nearly every religious and mythical tradition has its own story of an ancient flood that covered the whole earth and changed life here forever.

The Star of David symbol traces it origins back to these early days, now steeped in legend.

Early mystical schools taught that the Star of David or equal-sided star was a powerful symbol for man's spiritual path. Throughout our life in order to remain connected to God, Goddess, or a loving Higher Power, it's important to maintain a balance in both the spiritual and material realms.

The Star of David symbol is the living reminder that man is doing this - maintaining a balance between worlds.

Wearing a Star of David necklace can serve as a living "cue" that connects you with the ancient power of this beautiful metaphysical symbol.

When worn over the heart or the throat, clairvoyants claim that it activates these energy centers in wonderful ways. When the throat center or "chakra" is activated, we are inspired to speak from the heart and to tell the truth, no matter what opposition we might face. When the heart center is activated, we are inspired to reach out in a more inclusive attitude in love, expressing tenderness and empathy in a way that knows no religious or racial boundaries.

Many spiritual seekers enjoy wearing a Star of David necklace for just this reason. It connects them with the living mystery of the equal sided star, that ancient symbol of balance and spiritual wisdom.

So whether you honor the Jewish tradition and Jewish faith or if you simply enjoy gazing upon the lovely symbol as a tool for your own meditation or prayer, a Star of David necklace might be a lovely piece of jewelry that uplifts and inspires you.

Great Places to Go on a Caribbean Islands Cruise

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are few more enjoyable ways to spend a vacation than by going on an ocean cruise to the islands of the Caribbean. There, you will be able to lose yourself in a sultry tropical paradise, where adventure awaits you in various scuba diving and snorkeling excursions, and relaxation abounds on luxurious white beaches and clear crystal waters.

Let us explore in words a few of the wonderful places you can visit in the Caribbean on an ocean cruise:

Jamaica is an amazing and fun place, not surprising as it is the birthplace of Bob Marley and the music known as reggae. You can visit the resorts of Montego Bay, famous for its clear waters and lovely beaches. It is a beautiful place, but do be careful--this city is also known for its high crime rate.

The Cayman Islands, near Jamaica, are a very popular cruise destination. There is great scuba diving to be experienced here, including dives at shipwrecks, and there is a famous snorkeling location--Stingray City--where tourists can go snorkeling with wild stingrays that have gotten so used to humans that they pose no threat. If you just want to while away time at a beach resort, then you can stay at the Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman.

The Dutch Antilles include the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. Aruba is a great place to spend a winter vacation, as it has dry, sunny weather throughout the year. Bonaire is a great place to go scuba diving, being one of the top-rated locations for the sport. The island is surrounded by well-preserved coral reefs, and in fact the entire coastline has been designated a marine sanctuary, so that the ocean life remains very rich and diverse. Another popular tourist activity on Bonaire is flamingo watching.

The independent island nation of Barbados boasts one of the highest standards of living in the developing world. It is a place with many great resorts and tourist attractions, such as the unique Atlantis Submarine diving trip. There are also snorkeling expeditions that feature visits to shipwrecks and swimming with turtles. If you really love turtles, you can see more at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, where you will see many large specimens, as well as many other types of animal and plant life.

There are a lot more great destinations to explore in the Caribbean. We have not even considered Bermuda, Cuba, or the Virgin Islands, among many, many others.

Burning Life in Second Life

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Burning Life is a fantastic time in Second Life, based on the real Burning Life in California, Daddy Linden puts up four sims for anyone with the yen to be artistic without prim count!! (Prim counts are the number of items that you have on a selected area of land in Second Life.)

It was celebration of music and art in a grand style, and grandiose builds, confirming Elven Enchantment's Vision Statement: "Everything in Second Life is art, and everyone is an artist." There was art there for all types of art lovers and depending on your enjoyment of art could be described as the good, the bad, and the ugly, but it was so much fun to view all the works and taking pictures of those ones that I thoroughly enjoyed. While trekking through the sims enjoying the wide variety of music from classical to rock and roll.

There was the fantastic sculpture of made by my friend RacerX and it was a mixture of build and particles and it was a rotating sculpture of himself, complete with fireworks! There was a build of a giant tree with an ocean floating in the air with ocean life swimming within its confines. A glass forest, giant chairs, a marble dance floor with golden couples dancing the waltz, abstract art abounded, rainclouds and rainbows. Some builds celebrated life, death, remembrance, and reminders that we all live on a planet called earth and we need to keep this planet healthy and clean so future generations will enjoy it as well. There was a lava and ice castle, the Twin Towers, and a circus, a maze with dead ends and at the center a sculpture, a Mayan pyramid, builds that had dice and dominoes inside within closed buildings making me wonder--how did they do that?

On September 30, 2007, was the day the man was burned. Unfortunately, the sim was full to capacity and I missed this event. However, I did spy some burning men and women at the sim I was on and was mollified. All this mayhem and magic disappeared at midnight on October 1, burned into our memories making us wonder if it was really there at all.

Gifts for Children - Can Children Have Fun Learning?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

We always want to get it right when it comes to buying a suitable gift for a child. However it is not always easy to. There is often a clash of opinion when it comes to what children should play with. It is fair to say that parents are often encouraging their child to learn and therefore play with toys that can help achieve this. On the other hand, the priority of a child is not only to have toys that are ‘in fashion’ but also to have fun, and have lots of it. There is no reason why the two can’t be joined hand in hand. There are a huge number of products made for children which are classified as ‘educational toys’.

In this article I am going to highlight some educational toys which allows your child to learn and have a whole heap of fun.

Wild Science Range of Educational Kits-

Wild Science is one of the most recognizable, best selling and popular science brands in the UK offering a diverse range of collectible science kits with real attitude. The quality of the kits from content and package design down to their sheer fun and entertainment value make this range a real winner. In the range are: Slime Laboratory, Perfume Laboratory, Hyper launcher Super Ball Factory, Atlantis Nature Reserve and many others. The whole purpose of the Wild Science range is to teach children about certain elements of science and they have fun while doing so.

Nick Baker Nature Kits-

This range was developed by Nick Baker, a popular Wildlife Expert, Author and TV Presenter. His kits guide you and your child through a fascinating world full of wonder and delight using specially designed, professional quality field equipment and revealing instructions containing loads of notes, hints and tips. In his range are: Animal Tracking Kit and Bug Hunting Kit. Not only are they educational and fun, the physical involvement involved in exploring nature allows a form of exercise that children can benefit from.

Go Solar Experiment Kit-

This educational kit has more than 30 fun and exciting activities to do with energy from the sun and light. Activities include building your own solar furnace, solar powered carousel, and aeroplane mobile. Learn about temperature, focal points, colour refraction, the greenhouse effect and more.

Solar Mars Explorer-

This odd but cool looking ‘mars explorer’ is powered by the sun. However, it firstly needs to be put together. It is the process of assembling this toy with the solar panel that teaches the child about solar energy and how the sun provides the energy required to activate the toy to walk around. Not recommended for children under 3 due to small parts.

The toys and games above are merely a snippet of products that are available under the category ‘educational toys’ but I hope I have given you encouragement that children can have fun learning.

Precious in the Sight of the Lord is the Death of His Saints

Image : http://www.flickr.com

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints"
Ps. 116:15

Why should we offer that to the Lord which cost us nothing?
-Matthew Henry Commentary

Jesus, the lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice, who we are to imitate. How did Jesus sacrifice? He gave up his life so that we could come to the Father. A sacrifice has to be something of great value, or it is just given, donated, cast aside. We are to sacrifice because Jesus was our example.

Sometimes it is easier to imagine what God wants from us when we look at things from the point of view of a parent. What is more precious to you, as a parent, than watching one of your children sacrifice for another? Even if it is only a crayon or the last french fry, you are proud of their sacrifice. The Lord, as our Father, finds it precious when we die to our selves.

"The death of his saints" can refer to the times we override our desires, wants, and, sometimes even our needs in order to glorify God. It has to be for his Glory... or it is just cast aside. We don't want to be a suffering martyr. A martyr in today's sense of the word serves to manipulate behavior through guilt. We have to acquiesce gracefully that which we may prefer so that we can advance God's kingdom.

Sometimes it is a real and difficult sacrifice for me to just keep my mouth shut. It is frequently a sacrifice of pride for me to calm down and take a new tack when disciplining my kids. It is a painful sacrifice to give up how I prefer to respond when attacked.

Then world tells imitators of Christ that we are a doormat or codependent. But Jesus said, turn the other cheek. He said, in this world you will have trouble. He said that he won me over with cords of loving kindness, not cords of imprisonment. He has overcome the world. Through his spirit, we can die to our self and better bring Him glory.

History Of Elven Enchantment Museum And Art Gallery

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As with anything, there is a history to why something happened or was developed. It is especially true with Elven Enchantment. When I first logged onto the grid as we call Second Life in-world, I truly did not understand how to take snapshots using the camera tools. My friend, Chastity taught me, but the pictures did not turn out well because it took me a while to master the ability to use the panning features of moving the camera. However, this Elf finally figured it out...and a shutterbug was born.

I will take pictures of anything and my passion was pictures of my lovers in very intimate moments in our Second Lives, which mattered not to anyone, as all enjoy taking and sharing pictures with each other.

At the time, my friend Maggie shared her blog with me and it really tickled my fancy and I began developing my personal blog, which is the background for my avatar, to share with my friends, however, I needed a decent picture to place on my blog. I had just purchased Photoshop and began playing with my snapshots. The very first picture was of "Early Days" and my friend Chastity took one look at it and exclaimed that it was a beautiful extraction and congrats as extractions were the hardest element to do in Photoshop.

Being one of my first pieces in Photoshop, I really had no idea what she was talking about but was tickled I had accidentally did something wonderful, from a professionals point of view and thus "Early Days" hung in our home and I began contemplating how I could combine my passion for Second Life pictures and Photoshop.

As I began perusing my snapshots in my photo album, I decided that correcting the Second Life flaws of poseballs, see though legs, defiance of gravity and misplaced personal items in the photographs with Photoshop and then displaying them would be fun. With the use of Photoshop, a few more pictures were edited and then I discovered how to use the texturizing tool in Photoshop and I began using it to turn my photographs in to canvasses.

As the pictures were completed I would shyly show my friends my progress and obtain honest opinions of my work and with encouragement from Chas and Maggie I continued uploading and downloading and working on my canvasses.

In June 2007, we lived where the western part of the museum is now and our property extended to corner where the sidewalk extends south towards the grove and northward. Around the first of July we had decided to purchase beach front property on another sim and I bought out my friends interest in the property in Eunpyung. At the time, the landlord who owned the land sold it to Mr. Dano Singh who is the current landlord of all the land connected to the museum.

Now I must confess, I spent several weeks building on Orientation Island, but had not built a thing on the mainland since Chastity and I came over, so I began some experimental building. The results were that I had thin, boards for my building material and uneven ground to place the construction material on the walls were crooked and sidewalks uneven. I began asking friends whom they knew in SL that had built their own stuff to perfection. My friend Zaknafien Barbosa said he knew the owner of the Blue Tattoo and he built his entire club and his own home. Having been dancing there a time or two I knew the high quality of this build. So I asked Mr. Barbosa for an introduction to Mr. Pat Wunderland the owner of the club for a building lesson.

Mr. Wunderland showed me how to assign one face textures, build by numbers, and to build with .5-meter of thickness for the walls. Back at the gallery I began reworking all my walls and floors. My, what a difference this 30 minute lesson had in my ability to build!

About at this same time I began suffering from lag. I could not receive incoming instant messages or outgoing IM's nor could I teleport out of the Museum. I thought it was Daddy L and all residents know the name of that tune--rolling reboot of the sim. However, Daddy Linden was vindicated when I caught a glimpse of a phantom wall thrust into mine. I only discovered this when the phantom wall gobbled up my walls.

Thinking that I had built accidentally onto someone's property, I turned on the view property lines option. My walls were indeed on my property, crooked, but on my property all the same. I sent a correspondence to the owner of the property at the time and asked her to remove her phantom walls off my property. I was told if I took down my walls she'd take down hers. Recognizing this as blackmail as her land had become landlocked, I made a harassment report to Daddy Linden, who took care of the problem, but what he could not take care of was the 20 foot ugly wall my neighbor chose to hoist up on her side of the property. The real sad thing about this situation was if this neighbor had communicated with me and explained her problem, I would have happily moved my entire museum down the property as at the time, my other neighbor on the south wall, had an ugly sign that I had to build around, however this didn't happen.

Instead museum walls were built higher so my visitors would not have to suffer the indignity of seeing that ugly wall. While this drama was happening, my landlord Dano was scouring the sim for more prim property as I was not prim conscience on this build because the more I built the grander my creative ideas became. I felt that prims should not be counted during the building or hinder the creative process. In the end Dano found me close to four thousand prims and linked them to the property.

Primitives are also called prims in Second Life and they are they building blocks of our world. Each avatar, and unit it takes to build something is considered one prim. In order to build on your property you must stay below the prim limit on the land and the museum was gobbling up prims in a beastly fashion.

In the meantime, I was purchasing art for the museum, speaking to artiste's, still learning to attention to the details on my build. In mid-July I met Marissa Lefebvre who is a talented builder and brilliant artiste. She taught me how to finish the edges. If you look at where the glass floors meet the marble floor, the .5-meter thickness under normal circumstances would not be marbled, but squished lines. Mari taught me how to rotate the texture on a prim and face repeats of the texture so the marble look extends down over the sides of the flooring. Mari also rebuilt my walls and floors so that I could free up my prims.

With two weeks to go, I called on my friends to help me with the final push to finish the gallery, Ms. Taranae Rhode proofread my signs...ouch, without spell and grammar checks, when you are in Photoshop you do not have the advantage of, well, I have discovered that I really have become a rotten speller, but I suppose working on this project late at night, blurry-eyed did not help either.

Elven Enchantment Museum and Art Gallery was build around one picture that was remade in Photoshop, made into canvas, and hung in my home in Second Life many weeks before the building of the Museum began.

The Museum has a life of its own now and calls artistes to it to display their artistic talent and to display those talents for all Second Life Residents to enjoy.

Personal Life vs Business Life in Second Life

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As funny as my title sounds, "Personal Life vs. Business Life in Second Life," it is a very accurate description of how distinct my Second Life experience has become.

When I began tripping around the virtual world of Second Life, it was my intention to be a business owner, however, I was unprepared for the social aspect of Second Life and the social activities that you can participate in and I became distracted from my business goals that I came into Second Life with and developed a wonderful personal life and then I was inspired to build a museum after realizing that everything in Second Life was art I had this yen to share it with others.

Then my personal life became very frenetic with activity of business and the business of building. Those in my personal life in the early days very happily and generously supported my endeavors and pulled me away from the stress of building when I needed a break.

Then the opening of the Museum happened and my personal life become non-existent as my personal involvements with my Second Life family ended due to many different reasons. I buried myself in my Museum and kept in touch with two or three of my friends from my previous life, and then I discovered a wonderful night club called Lady Killerz.

Lady Killerz is a lady's only club where male strippers entertain the guests, the VIPs in turn dance, flirt, and had a fabulous time with the staff. I then began setting about with making new friends from the club and meeting new people, and enjoying single life in Second Life and redefining who Atlantis Jewell really was during the months of September and October, they were lonely months, but busy ones however the loneliness was about to end for it was destiny that I was to meet a very compelling figure at Lady Killerz.

It was a Sunday afternoon in Real Life, just before Halloween and I was busy working as usual in my Museum and I get a group IM from Lady Killerz and a couple of the guys were on the conference inviting the beautiful ladies who were VIPs to come on down for an afternoon of fun and entertainment. I had a particularly stressful day trying to set up artwork at the Museum and getting an IM from someone who made a teleporter that I bought, that never worked, and refusing to fix or replace it and additionally, this was the second day in a row that I was too busy working to go down right away to the Club. Now on Saturday, the day before, I was working and when I got done with work I went to the Club after reading all the bantering fun on the group conference and no one was there so today I was jonesing to get to the Club.

I teleported into the Club and again no one was there! I decided that after two days in a row of reading the steamy conference IMs that not having anyone there after all that bragging I wrote some of my own IMs demanding to know where everyone one was...they all left again! I informed the two guys who had been talking it up in IMs that I wanted one or the other to show up and both would be better!!

In strolls a long, haired tanned, tattooed guy who would eventually rock my Second Life, Papo Lungu. We scrapped a bit before he decided to get to the business of dancing and entertainment! Real Life called me shortly thereafter and I logged.

As a Rule in Second Life, I try to be a more generous and much more understanding, and polite then I am in First Life, and I was mortified that I had been so rude and demanding to the new guy from Killerz. The month of November was a month of decisions and change in my personal life as well as acquiring property in Second Life, I was hiring Mr. Lungu as a companion to accompany me to different events that I needed to attend and attending with someone at my side was much more fun.

The very first thing that I discovered about him that he was taken in Second Life, which left me and sixes and sevens as I had never hired anyone to accompany me anywhere, I got over it. Then I learned he was a BDSM Master and I spent several weeks contemplating whether or not to take a chance and ask him to accept me as his sub. I asked and He said yes.

Slowly, I fell behind in my work at the Museum scrambling at the last minute so I would not let anyone down, I barely made some deadlines; it was then that I realized that my business life was being sandwiched between my personal life and I had to discipline myself get the work done and my Second Life became as much of a juggle as my First Life so that my personal life and my business life would mesh and did not clash; the struggle to juggle is real, but the effort worth it.

Recently, I have learned that lots of business people in Second Life have something called an Alternate or Alt. This is an Alternate Avatar that they use to create, so they will not get interrupted from the well-meaning people on their friends list.

Do I have an Alt? Yes, however, she was developed so that I could have a second group member for Elven Enchantment Property Group so that I hold exclusively my property in Second Life. I created her in November and left her on Basic Island, (which has improved and changed so much since I was born!) In December 07 I then needed an extra woman for a photo shoot I was working on and so I brought her to the mainland and took the photo shoot and left her in the caverns of Bliss.

I have chosen not to use my Alt as a workhorse, because she's a grouch, dislikes Humans, and prefers to be underground where She rules supreme! If you have not guessed it, yes, She is an Elf, but a Dark Elf, also known as a Drow.

So how does one balance a personal life and a professional life in Second Life? Work hard at it, compromise, and enjoy each moment to the fullest no matter which moment that is and Seize Second Life and make it yours!

How to Enjoy Your Vacation With the Kids

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Taking your kids on vacation is not always easy. When planning for holidays with children, there are plenty of things to consider. Looking for a kid friendly resort is the key to making sure your trip is full of fond memories instead of splitting headaches.

1. Take the kids to the happiest place on earth. Yes, Walt Disney World, located in central Florida. The number one choice of little ones the world over, it can also be a great experience for the adults of the family unit. With so many theme parks to choose from and animated characters to meet, the experience could hardly be called boring. If parents are looking for less child-centered activities, they can take a tour of Pleasure Island or explore the shops of Downtown Disney. Of course, there are enough eateries around to satisfy everybody’s tastes.

2. If theme parks are not your cup of tea, perhaps a tropical location is closer to your ideal vacation spot. Try to get a detailed map of Spain, or whichever country you are visiting, to find some great outdoor spots. Check out the Atlantis Resort that is located on Paradise Island (of the Bahama Islands fame). This resort caters to the entire family. With eleven pools and plenty adventurous slides to choose from, your children will be happy little swimmers. Or, mix education with pleasure by taking them to the Discovery Channel camp, where they can learn about the local ecosystem, explore their creativity through arts and crafts or take guided tours of the island. Adventurous adults can partake of snorkeling and water skiing activities. At night, go to the casino or even hit the clubs. At Atlantis Resort, there is a plenty of something for everyone.

3. If you would rather ski the slopes than the ocean, then book your stay with Snowbird Resort in Utah. Kids under twelve ski free, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Try snowboarding, ice skating or snow tubing. If you can think of a snow-related activity, Snowbird probably has it. Indoors, the resort is host to live music performances all year. Parents can also take advantage of the fitness club and spa.

4. When your family needs adventure, pack up and head to the Treesort in Takilima, Oregon. Take part in a true Swiss Family Robinson experience by lodging in the trees. Choose from one of eighteen different nests to sleep in, and spend your days climbing through the resort’s various elevated amusements. You can find a pool on the ground, as well as camp sites, but that’s about it.

5. When planning a vacation that is part fun and part educational, look no further than the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. This resort is sure to offer a family package that suits your needs. The resort itself offers children’s camps that feature swimming, games and even yoga. In addition, you will find gulfing courses and tennis courts, and a marina. Best of all, Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens are just a car ride away.

Experience the Sea at Orlando's Sea World

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Education, entertainment, wildlife conservation and thrills are what you can expect at Orlando's SeaWorld. This park has been called the most popular marine-life park in the world, and it certainly lives up to its reputation.

At SeaWorld you can get up close to dolphins, stingrays, water turtles, penguins and the other creatures that inhabit the seas of the earth. Let's look at some of the attractions that you can experience at this park.

The Wild Arctic is a popular favorite. Here, you'll enter a frozen wonderland with walls of ice nearly a half-inch thick. Exploring this multi-level ecosystem, you'll encounter abundant Arctic animal life seemingly drawn to the old ship. This includes face to face encounters with real walruses, beluga whales, and two famous polar bears named Klondike and Snow.

Do you like penguins? If so then you should make it a point to visit the Penguin Encounter attraction. It is Sea World's "slice of the Antarctic" and here you can watch penguins waddle about and enjoy themselves.

Stingrays have a fearsome name, but contrary to the name and the reputation they are among the most docile animals of the sea. Visit Sea Worlds Stingray Lagoon and you can watch 200 rays glide through the waters of their protected home. If you put your hand just below the surface, you're likely to get a velvety "high five" as they swim by. In a nearby nursery, stingray pups learn and play under the watchful eye of SeaWorld's animal care experts, always on hand to tell you anything you want to know about these graceful, mysterious creatures.

At Turtle Point you can view 300 sea turtles, ranging from tiny hatchlings to 6-foot-long leatherbacks. At Turtle Point you can also learn about and watch some of the endangered and threatened species of sea turtles. Here, these prehistoric-looking reptiles reside in a naturalistic lagoon complete with a beach, sand dunes and indigenous plant life.

Pacific Point Preserve is a recreated Los Angeles nature preserve featuring California sea lions. Here you can meet, touch and even feed some of these remarkable animals. Be sure to get a spot at Pacific Point Preserve at feeding time and you'll be in for a treat. This laid back community of California sea lions and harbor seals are always ready to entertain a crowd with their animated vocals and endless antics.

In addition to the thrill and wonder of seeing amazing sea creatures up close, the park also has sea-themed thrill rides. One of the newest is Journey to Atlantis.

Here is how the Sea World website, Seaworld.com, describes this ride: "Brave twists, turns, and watery falls of mythical proportions as you explore the mysterious, lost city of Atlantis aboard this thrilling water coaster ride. Journey along a dark, watery passageway through this sunken city guarded by sirens, whose fury casts riders out on some of the steepest, wettest plunges you'll find, sending you racing out of the gates of this ill fated utopian paradise." You can expect to get wet on this ride, so be prepared.

To top off the thrills, SeaWorld is also home to the Kraken, the tallest, fastest, longest and only floorless roller coaster in Orlando. That's right, it has no floor! Imagine a roller coaster that takes you to heights of a 15-story building, and puts you upside down seven times at speeds reaching 65 mph! Whew, that's Kraken and it can only be found at SeaWorld. (You must be 54 inches tall to ride).

After you have been thrilled by the rides and delighted by the sea creatures, you can chill out at the park's entertainment and dining area, known as the Waterfront. There is no doubt about it; SeaWorld has a combination of attractions, thrills and fun that is sure to bring a smile to every member of your family.
